Mr. Harold E. Meyer, Sr.

Saginaw, Michigan

August 16, 1921 - January 22, 2009

  Passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2009, at HealthSource Saginaw. Age 87 years. Harold was born on August 16, 1921, in Saginaw, son of the late Alex and Molly (Metzler) Meyer. He married Kathryn N. Welch on April 27, 1946, in Saginaw. She predeceased him on February 18, 1989. Harold served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII, having served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatres. Prior to his retirement in 1983, Harold was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear for 43 years. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and he loved socializing at the YMCA.
  Surviving are his three daughters, two sons and their spouses, Jean and John Cummings, St. Charles; Deborah and Robert Van Deventer, Saginaw; Steven and Renee Meyer, Saginaw; Jane and Richard Babcock, Port Austin, Mich.; Harold E. Meyer, Jr. and Carrie, Gastonia, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Victor Meyer, Arizona; also many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his brothers, Alex Meyer, and his twin, Edward Meyer.
  The Meyer family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the HealthSource staff, especially to Krisshonda McKinny and Gretchen Garret for their kind and loving care of Harold.
  Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2009, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. The Rev. Michael R. Korte will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
