  Passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center – Harrison. Age 80 years. Nick was born on July 9, 1928 in Saginaw, son of the late Nicholas, Sr. and Barbara (Zimmerman) Pappas. He married Gwendolyn M. Turek on May 21, 1955 in Saginaw, where she survives him. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, while stationed in Germany. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at F & T Contractors, then retiring from Saginaw General Hospital after 18 years as a cabinet maker. He was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, served on various boards and volunteered with the Braille Group. He loved woodworking, gardening, making soup and enjoyed his time with the Mall Walkers.
  Surviving besides Gwendolyn, his wife of 53 years, are their four children, Sheryl Pappas, Saginaw; David Pappas, Homer, Alaska; Vicki (Don) Houthoofd, Saginaw; N. Paul Pappas III, Macomb; three grandchildren, David (Kim) Pappas, Jr., Urbandale, Iowa; twins, Royce and Justin Houthoofd, Saginaw; three great-grandchildren, twins, Maia and Jaide Pappas, Nicholas Pappas; one brother, Gust Pappas, Redford; several nieces and nephews; also a special friend, Jeff Helfrich, Macomb. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Tom Pappas.
  Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. Pastors Michael R. Korte and Charles F. Buckhahn will officiate with burial in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, where military honor guard services will be conducted under the auspices of V.F.W. Post 1566. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave. on Friday from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
