Mr. Russell Hiram Strohpaul, Sr.

Saginaw, Michigan

October 10, 1924 - February 27, 2009

  Passed away Friday, February 27, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center – Cooper. Age 84 years. Russell was born on October 10, 1924, in Swartz Creek, MI to the late Hiram and Edna Pearl (Town) Strohpaul. He married Betty L. Russell on August 26, 1950, in Saginaw. She survives him. Russell retired in 1989 from the Saginaw Board of Education after 22 years of service. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He loved gardening, bowling, woodworking and Atlanta Braves baseball. Besides his wife, Betty, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Susan (Ronald, Sr.) Specht, Bridgeport; Ethel Schnell, Saginaw; Russell (Tina) Strohpaul, Jr., Grayling; James Strohpaul, Saginaw; eight grandchildren, Ronald Specht, Jr., Jermey (Shamiah) Specht, Jamie Lee (Jamie Lynn) Specht, Nicole (Jason) Trudeau, Russell Strohpaul, III, Matthew Strohpaul, Andrew Strohpaul and Jason Strohpaul; and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph (Luella) Strohpaul, Auburn; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant daughter.
  Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 808 Weiss. The Rev. Michael R. Korte will officiate. Burial will take place in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
