Bernice M. Alward

August 18, 1921 - March 11, 2009

   Passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center – Cooper. Age 87 years. Bernice was born on August 18, 1921 in Hemlock to the late Clyde and Lena (Pretzer) Alward. She was Baptized and Confirmed from St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hemlock, then attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Saginaw, where she served on the Altar Guild. Bernice also volunteered at Bethesda for many years. Prior to her retirement, she worked at JCPenney for 37 years. Surviving is her sister, Arlene Alward, Saginaw; one niece Mary Bauer, her great-nephews and great-niece, Todd, Matt and Crystal Bauer. She was predeceased by a sister, Elda Bauer.
  Funeral and committal services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 Court St. The Rev. James F. Krueger will officiate. Private burial follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave., on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., then at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
