Mr. Herbert L. McCullagh
Saginaw, Michigan
May 28, 1936 - April 11, 2009
Passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center. Age 72 years. Herb was born on May 28, 1936 in Saginaw to the late F. Leslie and Antoinette E. (Wirtanen) McCullagh. He was graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1954 and received his B.A. from Michigan State University in 1958. He then served two years in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, Herb was employed at Kmart as manager of the paint dept. for 21 years. He worked for several years driving freight truck, carrying auto parts all over the U.S. and Canada. Herb was newsletter writer and served on the Executive Board of Saginaw Railway Museum for many years. He attended St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church where he served several terms as member of Vestry and a term as Senior Warden of the Church. Herb traveled many thousands of miles on passenger trains all over the U.S., including one 14-day luxury trip across the U.S. through Washington State, down through San Francisco and back through the Rocky Mountain route. While spending several days in San Francisco, he rode the entire trolley system and crossed the entire circle of bridges over to Oakland, across to Marin County and back without getting lost! He even dangled his toes in the Pacific Ocean along the way.
Herb’s memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at the Wakeman Funeral Home, Inc., 1218 N. Michigan Ave, where friends are welcome to visit from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will take place later in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
